In Q2 2025, our consortium reached a significant milestone: securing land and finalizing all agreements to establish a dedicated Operational Center in the Rungwe District, Mbeya Region, Tanzania.
This step is more than construction—it represents our long-term commitment to building strong local foundations for rural electrification and economic empowerment across Sub-Saharan Africa.
Why This Matters
Today, more than 660 million people in Sub-Saharan Africa lack access to reliable electricity. Rural Tanzania is no exception: farmers, entrepreneurs, and households often struggle with limited energy access, inadequate infrastructure, and barriers to market participation.
The new Operational Center is designed to change this dynamic by providing:
- A logistics and storage hub for critical equipment such as mini-grid materials, productive use machinery, and digital infrastructure tools.
- A coordination base where our teams and partners can plan, train, and launch community projects.
- A technical workshop to assemble, maintain, and monitor systems close to the communities that rely on them.

Building the Foundation
The first stage of construction has already begun.
- Foundations are being laid with stone and sand.
- Materials, including cement and blockwork, are delivered on-site.
- Local teams are engaged in excavation, layout, and early structural work.
This process not only builds the center—it also creates local employment and ensures the community is directly involved from day one.
A Vision for Scale
The Operational Center is not just a building; it is an anchor for transformation:
- Supporting Rural Electrification: By streamlining logistics, we can accelerate the rollout of solar, hydro, and hybrid mini-grids that power homes, schools, health centers, and businesses.
- Enabling Productive Use of Energy (PUE): With reliable storage and deployment facilities, we can expand access to income-generating tools such as milling machines, refrigeration units, and smart cooking technologies.
- Driving Digital Access: The center will also coordinate the rollout of mobile-first digital infrastructure—connecting farmers and entrepreneurs to markets, finance, and data-driven opportunities.
Looking Ahead
This milestone gives Ruaha Energy and its partners a permanent presence in Rungwe, ensuring that our impact is scalable, sustainable, and community-led.
As we continue construction, this center will grow into the beating heart of our operations—a launchpad for innovation, entrepreneurship, and inclusive growth in rural Tanzania.
Together, we are building more than infrastructure.
We are building the foundation for one million customers, one village at a time.
